about hydrogen refueling safety

the auto blog -- Hydrogen faces a number of challenges when it comes to supplanting gasoline as the world's transportation fuel of choice, one of the largest of which was underscored by two small explosions at a Rochester, New York refueling station yesterday. According to reports, two people were injured when a spark ignited the fuel during a tank exchange. Praxair driver Robert Scruggs was transported to Strong Hospital with second-degree burns to his hands and face as a result of the incident, and a female Burger King employee was treated for ear pain in connection with the explosions.

" Remember the Hindenburg and May 6, 1937. "

So, don't make your tanks out of highly flammable fabric. Duh.

Well, it's a shame that something like that happened, but hundreds of thousands of people around the world are using it safely today! They just do it right, in small amounts, etc. It's good, clean, and safe enough done right! It's very volatile though, much like any flammable gas.

To one & all who think using Hydrogen as a motor vehicle fuel is a wonderful idea, Remember the Hindenburg and May 6, 1937.

Obviously something was done improperly. It was a learning experience and fortunately, no one died.

Hydrogen is extremely flammable, but so is propane, which is pumped into millions of homes across the country. The usage of hydrogen might be made safer.

The medical gas Healium; on the other hand is noble; inert as a lame duck representative. Female Burger Queen employees need better instruction on how far to keep their ears from loud noises like music or Oxidation of Hydrogen. Healium is less bright than Neon, and less dense (hard to be both at once) and Healium fills would last much longer than Hydrogen fills; since the Healium should not burn under standard conditions; so one fillup should last for as long as you own the vehicle.

Due to the highly explosive nature of hydrogen, most cities will probably ban refueling stations from populated or high-traffic areas, making it even less likely that it will become a practical alternative to petroleum-based fuels.

Just goes to show you that this is a dangerous choice for alternative fuel source.

Didn't we learn from the Hindenburg incedent that Hydrogen is too easy to spark a fire and explosion to be used as a source of fuel. It's just too risky. I dont want to work at a hydrogen fuel station.

Hydrogen, oil, electric... So far we always need to be careful with energy. Maybe solar or wind energy is safer than these traditional ones to be manipulated, but they are not accessible for everybody.
