Venezuela Wants OPEC to Maintain Output in December

Bloomberg -- Venezuela wants the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to maintain production when the group meets in December, Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said.

“For this meeting, Venezuela prefers to be cautious,” Ramirez said today in an interview in El Tigre, Venezuela. “The level of OPEC production has to be maintained.”

OPEC member nations will meet in December in Angola to discuss output quotas. They agreed last December to cut output by a record 4.2 million barrels a day after oil prices sank 70 percent from a record $147.27 a barrel in July 2008.

Venezuela is in trouble and so are we. Poor leadership and poor management is a very bad mixture no matter how good the PR is.

Chavez - 'sniff-sniff' - wants more money from the country whose former president he accused of being - like HIMSELF! He believes he can put the squeeze on the US.

Would seem there is no need for an OUTPUT quota but to fulfill the requirements of the users.

Does it make a difference on what they state publicly? Half of them cheat on production anyway.

And how much power does Venezuela have with OPEC, hardly any? So they think OPEC will want what Venezuela wants. OPEC must be laughing so hard over the request.

Looking at the twelve members of OPEC, it appears only two have used the proceeds to better the lives of it's citizens.

We don't use their oil but if they cut, then the places we get oil from will have a higher demand meaning higher prices.

Well said, Papagreg. Chavez wants to stick it to the US. We can retaliate by consuming less oil. Let's get those solar and wind farms up and running ASAP. More jobs here in the States and less dependent on OPEC...

Since when does a South American company have anything to say about running a Middle Eastern company?Ny the way, I want fuel prices to drop significantly, but I don't expect THEM to listen to ONLY ONE consumer.

Kuwait seems to have forgotten that if it wasn't for the United States their oil would still be under the control of Iraq. I remember hearing that is why the U.S. invaded Iraq, for their oil. That wasn't true, but if it was we would now have control of oil in 2 of the 12 OPEC countries and no environmental groups to stop us from drilling there.

Since we do not have enough proven oil reserves to meet future needs, we must develop viable alternative energy and rid ourselves of OPEC.

This is the problem with the US. Too many enviromentalist stopping the drilling. It's time we take a chance and deal with any problems that may arise. We always have. So start drilling.

I wish we didn't have to use any OPEC oil the way things are and no drilling here....it looks like it's a lost cause.

The hell with Venezuela. The other day I received an e-mail. It stated that we have more oil under our own soil , in Montana , and south dakota.
It stated that in 2005 George Bush signed a bill that drilling would start no later than 3 years. To date nothing has been done.

I checked a web site and they verified the story.
