Probably not. I would be hesitant to take a long road trip.

Maybe someday when the availability of charging stations is more accessible.

Maybe when the U.S. builds a better infrastructure to support an electric vehicle. There needs a to a charge station at every gas station in the country for me to really consider this.

Maybe someday, but never as a primary vehicle. I like to travel too much. I'm also halfway between two smaller cities so I'd need at least 200 miles total per charge just to visit either in an electric vehicle.

I would buy an electric car or a hybrid for the daily commute, but the cost at $40K is far too high for what you get.

If my understanding of hybrids is correct, the gas engine kicks in at 40kph. This should be closer to 60kph to allow for 100% battery use in the daily commute.

In the electric car, 160km range per chrage is fine, but the Nissan Leaf states the max speed is 90kph.

My consideration of these vehicles will increase once they break the 200km range, and increase the max speed to around 120kph.

Not likely. All that said about range and more recharge stations is fine, but battries only last so long and unlike an engine Thier life can't be prolonged with proper maintenance

I might consider owning an electric when their range becomes acceptable, and when there are existing recharging stations are available within that range. Also must be able to recharge within a few minutes.

If it were possible, I would own either a Tesla or Ford Focus electric now. Tesla is very tempting because of the greater range. However, the price is way above my limit. So, next choice is the Ford Focus. Still somewhat expensive, but I would so like to have one. Ninety-five percent of my driving is within the range of the vehicle. The Focus is a decent looking car, unlike the terminally ugly Leaf or undersized Mitsubishi MiEV.

let's put it this way the only way i could ever drive one is if chevy gave me one through a contest or promotion.in other words i can't even afford to pay the insurance on a new vehicle let alone any repairs.and? i am not about to buy a new vehicle anytime soon just to drive it off the lot and lose 5-10 k in value because i am not a dealer. i watch these court shows where if a dealer is given a judgement they receive a bigger amount simply becasue they have overhead/payroll/inventory to take care of.while any individual witht he same exact car is given 30-40 less. even thought the whole burden for the care of the vehicle is on the individual.something crooked about that.

Technology is not yet mature and no "economies of scale" happening yet with electric cars.

I bought an electric low speed vehicle in Dec 2010. We use it for all our local errands. It is supposed to have a range of 50 miles, but with all our hills, it is less. It has a solar panel roof, that keeps the batteries topped up. I have only plugged it in a dozen times, during the short days of winter. It is wonderful.

Probably not - want full range capability. Would have to be charging stations everywhere before I would even consider.

If we moved to a community where main transportation within the community is golf carts would consider them - but not for general transportation.

After reading a few comments, some people are on top of EV while some are still in the dark. Ev's are not Hybrids, they are ALL electric. They do charge themselves when slowing down and braking. Some EV's have Supercharge ports that will allow 30 minute re-charge to 85% capacity that will allow trips. Ev's are urban vehicles so if a trip is necessary you will need a GAS vehicle. Battery technology is evolving and EV can be purchased with a 150+ mile range. Mitsubishi makes the i in 3 models that range in price from "plain" @$21K to "fancy" @$35K. Just depends on what you like in the car.

Several factors that will convince me to get one:

a. Competitive price to gasoline car
b. Longer range battery
c. A good network to recharge in public
d. Faster recharging time
