Volkswagen's Jetta hybrid sets production car land speed record

At the Bonneville Salt Flats, Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid LSR returned October 5th to break the Southern California Timing Association’s (SCTA) H/PS land speed record. The class is for production cars with engines of less than 1.5 liters that use forced induction.

Motor Trend's Road Test Editor Carlos Lago averaged 186.313 mph over two runs during the SCTA’s World Finals event, eclipsing the previous record by 18.8 mph. Cool.

Why is it that some people seem to think that all news posted here is old. How old do they mean? Do they mean they read it yesterday someplace else? If so, then exactly. That is how it works when things are re-posted. Then when the source is a monthly magazine like Motor Trend, it has the possibility of being 5 weeks old.... How old?

So this is a “production car”, just like you an I can buy, except with different wheels, different tires, different suspension, a stripped interior and nearly twice the horsepower.

Well, every VW I've owned except a 04 Mexican made Jetta was very dependable and I'd buy again so if the price is right.....

What does it really prove other than to show that the VW engineers can warp the hybrid to almost double its normal hp to achieve the Salt Flats speeds.
