Gasoline prices continue edging up, remain well below year ago

GasBuddy Blog -- Gasoline prices are rising across the United States, and even the West Coast is getting in the action this week as prices slowly start to creep up. The bad news? That prices may have bottomed out until the end of summer. The good news? That nationally, prices remain about 25c/gal cheaper than last year.

Even with the tepid rise we've seen in the last couple weeks, prices in a majority of areas are still lower or at least comparable to last year. It wasn't surprising to see the best gasoline prices for the summer in June, which is what I was forecasting back in January. The next expected drop in gasoline prices will be in October through Christmas or so, with the national average dropping into the low $3/gal range, unless the economy...

when the value of inanimate THINGS exceeds the value of LIVING beings, it's no surprise that stuff and the material from which stuff is made is going up.

barberb: well, back then we also paid more taxes and no one complained. Nor did we have all the gadgets that were becoming more important in people's lives than actual people.

It amazes me that we view $3.00 a gallon as good. I remember when it was $.99 a gallon. How I long for those days.

The price of gas last year is totally immaterial when I pull up to the pump this year.

As for the "tepid rise we've seen in the last couple of weeks," I don't consider a 28 cent/gal increase tepid.

If gas drops to $3 a gallon that would be nice. Seeing that its cheaper than last year is great, however whois in control is what matters because they can raise the price whenver they deem necessary and we sills till be at the pump.

It's the consumer's fault. Stop buying so much gas. Use Gas Buddy and when you do need to purchase gas get it for less. The consumers can control the prices if would band together, VOTE out big oil politicians and get back to supply and demand economics.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT AND START AGAIN! No more "lifetime" politicians!

Keep in mind that government taxes on a gallon of gas cost you about 4 times more than the eeeevil oil company's profit on it.

My guess is this is temporary but long term the price only goes up so that is why we must get off of oil.

it appears that when gas goes down in the east, prices go up in the west and vice versa. prices have been slowly going down, but just waiting for that first bump up in prices again. i still say greed, pure unadulterated greed!

I really feel like a roller coaster ride with prices. The sad part is with a roller coaster, the fast parts are supposed to be the down hills, not the up hills.
