Thanks for posting in the Message Forum: Topic: Did You Eat Ice Cream Today? And, hope you will return when you have eaten your favorite flavored ice cream.

too bad ford didn't release the higher mileage diesel here for the ranger. your son would be able to get approx 36mpg and still have the 4wd for those snowy roads. yes diesel cost more, but he'd get double the mileage.

I agree we need to produce oil now to impact the future. We can't keep putting things off just because the results may not be immediate. Keep posting.

Hi Clancy - thanks for the tip on car insurance. Yeah, I know what you mean about dragging up old topics but I don't see the harm myself.

by ClancyME  Feb 11, 2011

I was going to post this on your retirement thread, but it's out of date. You know how they like me dragging up old topics?!! Here's another sure fire cost cutter, and that's to take the online Defensive Driver Course. We got about 12% discount on our insurance after we both finished it.

I saw your post regarding the price of gas in your '72 Gran Torino. Doing a little research, I found the the MSRP of a new 1972 Gran Torino 2-door fastback with the 351, AC and an auto trans was about $3,100. Today, a moderately optioned 2010 Taurus goes for about 9 times as much. If you were spending $7 for a fill-up in the Torino, I'm guessing you might have been buying about 18 gal, which would have been about $0.39/gal back then, which sounds about right. If gas cost 9 times as much now, like the car does, you'd be paying about $3.51/gal. Maybe THESE are the good-old days after all.
