Howdy Phil! Gulf of Mexico oil seepage rate is about 140,000 tonnes per year (ranging from 80,000 to 200,000 tonnes per year).
One tonne is equivalent to 7.5 barrels of oil, therefore, every year, about 600,000 to 1,500,000 barrels of oil seeps naturally into the Gulf of Mexico. That's EVERY year PhilMils.
Now, the US Government says BP leaked 4.2 million bbls with more likely correct estimates of 2.5 million bbls.
Just what math did you use to come up with "many thousands of times worse than natural seepage"??
My math does show 2 to 4 times more oil but that's a ways off from "many thousands", is it not?
