And as I have written, I do not defend racist comments. "Marion Robinson`s statement is relevant as it shows how she viewed others" Well, OK, and so? What is the relevance? And people on this site defend her remarks? Sad, but who and why? In fact, this situation speaks very highly of Pres Obama. As you have helped point out, he has lived under constant racist attitudes his whole life, even from the family that he married into. And yet, he still rose to become President of the United States. That's quite a success story, and one for which that I now have even greater appreciation.

Says one who flings "Nazi".

Accusations, especially with "racism" or "Nazi" or "communist" or "socialist" should not be flung so carelessly. Sadly, many people today fling such accusations too carelessly, especially on this site. Those who belong to racists groups, like KKK or White Supremacy groups, yes, they are racists. Someone who opposes Pres Obama for political reasons is not a racist. But those who throw in 19th century stereotypical images of blacks, yeah, they should be called racists. By the way, why so focus on what Marion Robinson said? What difference does it make? And what's the big deal about MidNJ whether he responds or not?

I don't know how to effect becoming "Buddies" if I must do anything other than click "yes". Ill work or it and we'll see. I used to live in a little town in Massachusettes, named "Ayer" It was cold then and I can tell (this year) hasn't changed.Gotta go. SA

I've unfortunately been far too busy, and lots of health issues going on in life that GB hasn't been high up on my list. I really wish I had never lost my consecutive days streak last year, I'd be somewhere around 1400 by now.

continued: If anyone I knew stated something that was obviously racist, I would rightfully criticize that person, and never try to justify or deflect those actions through racist comments from others. On that point, the use of the Confederate Flag, like a burning cross, or the Nazi swastika, has deep and long running racist roots. People have the right to use them as free speech, but that doesn't negate the racist symbolism behind them. Until the wounds of racism in this country are healed, it's best if state and federal governments avoid these symbols.

I cannot comment for others, but can understand why many don't respond. It's been my experience that such discussions on this site often degenerate into personal attacks lacking in any intellectual thoughtfulness of the issues. There are a handful of members I ignore for that very reason. As for what Marion Robinson may have or not said about Pres Obama, I'm uncertain what your point is. Whatever she said is irrelevant as much as whatever Laurel Bush's mother may have said about GW. If your point is to demonstrate that racism exists in many groups, there are far better examples. However, the use of obscure examples of this kind from “the other side” often are used to justify, deflect or obscure boorish behavior of a far worse nature from “the same side.” Racism is never justified, no matter who says it. If anyone I knew stated something that was obviously racist, I would rightfully criticize that person, and never try to justify or deflect those actions through racist comments

I will respond to your notifications as soon as I get my computer returned from the shop. I got a virus and borrowed one long enough to give a general response. SA
