Many lawsuits to follow: hiding information and cover up, brakes and acceleration problems, deaths from unintended acceleration and crashes, loss of resale value – to name a few. Legal settlements could end up $2 to 3 billion in recall costs.

So, who is going to jail if the government wins? Nobody, it is all about getting some money out of Toyota.

All the major companies do it! Just look at all the recalls! Don't kid your self, do you think they would stop production for any thing? Not a chance, its all about money.

It would be hard to believe that Toyota would intentionally sell defective cars knowing that eventually it would come back to bite them.

Toyota just can't get away from all this bad news. It has got to hurt there sales. I am sure every one that can will try to get some $. It will take some time because the courts are slow.

I wonder how he'll feel when they find that most of the problem is operator error? I hope the DA has to pay all the court costs.

He is going to have a very hard time proving this unless someone has altered the cars he has in mind. I think some dirty individuals have been messing with Toyota products and then claiming Toyota did it.

harleydoctor said: "BE AMERICAN-BUY AMERICAN, end of problem..."
People learned long ago that most American cars were crapola. That's why sales of imports have been so strong over the last several decades. Many people like myself who have owned Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans and BMWs will NEVER go back to Chrysler, GM and Ford products, as those products (while better than they used to be) are STILL inferior to the imports.

Is the prosecutor trying to right a wrong or make a name form himself? Civil suites by classes of individuals will make Toyota pay for what they may have done without creating the excessive publicity that comes from criminal complaints.

What a bunch of garbage. If this is the best that the Orange County DA can do to protect his charges, we are in big trouble. I still can't figure out why its so difficult for people driving cars with "stuck" accelerators to slow them down given there are so many options for doing so (I drive a Prius and have numerous ways to do it despite not having a normal transmission). Maybe we need to teach people basic emergency driving skills while we sue the automaker.

I predict that the cost of a Toyota will be 10% higher than other like vehicles to cover the cost of litagation fees if they come out of this at all and continue to sell cars in the USA. Are the cars running out of control in other countries?

That is Toyota's problem trying to cover it up at first. Now they are going to have class action suits. If they had fixed the problem when it first happened they wouldn't be having these problems now.

You trust foreign made anything? We used to have GREAT American made products, then the 18 cent a day wonders in China, Japan, India and the like took over, and see, you get what you pay for...high priced junk....Recycled washing machine parts from the Chinese laundries....

News states Toyota sales in 2010 is up 50%, is it the 0% interest rate? I am not running there for one after their Prius performance of taking 20% deposit & in 9 months no car. Then this gas pedal, floor mat, computer mistakes. Yet they cannot get it right. Cars are not fixed! GIVE PEOPLE THEIR MONEY BACK FOR THE CAR.
