Typical asinine projection to feed the frenzy back when prices were going up.

For us to see gas @ $5 there would have to be so much economic activity that unemployment would be cut by 30-40% or there would have to be some major damage to world oil production. Otherwise all I see is scare tactics to discredit the Obama administration.

"If it's happening. All gas owners will be very hurt and easily get threaten by angry people."

I feel sorry for the people who work at the gas stations...they catch all the flack from angry customers even though these ridiculously high prices are not their fault...I think oil undustry exces should be made to stand in these stations and take the heat...why shouldn't they, they're the ones making the big bucks...

How many people paid $5 last year when the prediction was made?

Capitaldawg71, in Columbus last year you barely paid $4 / gallon. And since that was average... But keep predicting it, maybe some year you may hit it!

This topic is a year old but it is still relevant for this year, too, but it didn't hit $5 last May in most areas and I don't think it will this year, either. Some of the traditionally higher-priced areas may hit the $5 mark, but I think most areas of the country will be in the $4-$4.50 range, which is still ridiculously high.

"$5 a gallon...my heart hurts with that thought. Why doesn't the gov provide everyone a large incentive to buy "alternative fuel" cars.. the car manufacturing and dealerships bushiness will be booming.. and gas prices would have to go down - or would it go up?.. if cars don't need to fill up all the time?

I'm glad I traded in my 8 cy SUV after the last gas hike! And i would of loved to buy and "alt fuel" car...but they are too damn expensive..."

The auto industry is way behind the power curve on alternatively powered vehicles...if they would've gotten the ball rolling 10 years ago we may now have affordable options....

As long as we have speculators speculating based on what might happen, rather than the reality of what is happening, prices will remain volatile and based on nothing real. Will it hit $5.00 per gallon in six weeks??? We are very close to $5.00 on the West Coast now, though prices have fallen a couple of cents in the past few days. Time will tell, but what is clear is the trend is certainly for prices to continue climbing.

This Iran garbage is just an excuse for the oil industry to gouge. Even if all exports of oil from Iran stopped, the loss of what they export could easily be made up by other expoting nations by bumping up their production slightly.

I read the strong possibility that if something isn't done about Iran soon, that we're looking at double the price for a barrel of oil within a year.
